“Aki Green Cup festival 2019” was held at Hakuba Iwatake MTB Park on Aug.24 (Sat) and Aug.25 (Sun). (※ The park was reserved for the festival). The 24th festival was a huge success. There were roughly three types of events: off-road, touring and kids’s race, and everyone from adults to children had a great time.

It was clear like yesterday, and it was a perfect day for mountain biking and strider biking. In the early morning, elementary school and secondary school students were making test rides for cross-country riding at the foot. Meanwhile, at Downhill Course, adult riders were making test rides and having warm-up exercises for “Adventure Downhill with two stages set by Mr. Junya Nagata”.

Grade 1 – 3 students started cross-country riding at 9:10 a.m. There were parents in the audience around the starting line, who were giving their children advice. Participants competed based on the number of the laps and goal time within 20 min, 40 min and 60 min for grade 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 (secondary school) students, respectively.

Children of three to five took part in “Strider Super Downhill”. It’s the winding downhill course and I saw some passionate fathers teaching how to take the course at the test ride. It was for children but they were required to wear helmets, and it was a real competition having qualifying rides and final rides according to their age.

The foot was filled with a peaceful atmosphere, while Adventure Downhill Course at the top was full of tension. Apart from the competition outside, bikes were available for test rides and various equipment was on sale in front of White Plaza and at the southern booths, including Panasonic, KONA, SHIMANO.
