We are having “typical rainy season” this year, unlike last year when the rainy season ended early on Jun.29 (Fri). Notably, we only had 3.8 hours of sunlight over the last five days, which was just one-fifth in length compared to the average year (※only 16.2 hours even over the last 10 days). The sky was clear at dawn, however, the clouds gradually rose and hung over the ridge of the Northern Alps.

The whole Happo One Nature Trail is now open as the upper area of Boardwalk (shown in the photo), which had been the only area with snow, has finally opened! Happo One will open from the early morning after Jul.13 (Sat). Happo Alpen Line starts operation at 6:30 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, and at 7 a.m. on weekdays until Aug.18 (Sun), while Kurobishi Line starts operation at 6:45 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays, and at 7:15 on weekdays.

Chishima Gikyou (shown in the photo) was starting to bloom at the sandy ground near No.3 Cairn. I also found Takane Bara, Tegata Chidori, Ibuki Jakosou, Hosoba Tsumekusa and Miyama Karamatsu flowers around Happo-ike Pond. Meanwhile, flowers of early summer, such as Yukiwariso, Harurindo and Iwakagami, were in bloom at the upper area of Boardwalk.

The boardwalk and rocks were already dry and I enjoyed trekking along Nature Trail to Shimo-no-kaba, although the ground was a bit muddy due to the yesterday’s rainfall. “The sunrise was amazing this morning! We saw even Mt. Yatsugatake and Mt. Fuji!”, people coming down from Mt. Karamatsu said.

The ridge of Kaerazu-no-ken was wrapped in clouds all day. “This is our second time climb to Mt. Karamatsu. We had a poor view last time because of clouds. We hope we can go above clouds and enjoy the view this time!”, a couple coming from Matsumoto City, Nagano, said and headed for Shimo-no-kaba.
