The weather was dull for the first several days of the Golden Week holiday period, however, it turned sunny after May. 2 (Thu). At Kitaone Kogen Highland, Hakuba Happo One Snow Resort reopened on Apr. 27 (Sat) for spring. The snow still remained at that time, however, it has already melted and I enjoyed trekking with sneakers today, on May. 5 (Sun).

“Super View Foot Bath” (shown in the photo) is equipped with towels and rugs, so you can just bring yourself. Hakuba Happo One Hot Spring is the only natural hydrogen hot spring in Japan with high alkalinity. There are some tables, benches and deck chairs to relax, as well as some wooden Othello and Shogi (Japanese chess) sets to play.

Only seasonal dishes are available at Kitaone Kogen Terrace until Jun. 2 (Sun). I ordered “Panini with Prosciutto Produced in Shinano Omachi and Mozzarella” (1080 yen, served with potato) and “Redberry Lemonade” (550 yen). The salty prosciutto and cheese, which was put between the crispy and chewy bread, as well as the sour and refreshing lemonade was so tasty.

Azumaya (pavillion), Canopy Walk and Tree Deck are only accessible at the moment. If you would not like to get your shoes muddy, you can borrow boots for free. “Nezugo & Utsukushii Mori (Beautiful Forest) Trail” and “Miharashi (Great View) Trail” must be accessible by the middle of May, when the snow will melt and trails will be fixed.

I was able to see Mt. Amakazari (1,963m above sea level) and Mt. Hiuchi (2,462m) in the north, and Mt. Asama (2,568m) in the east from “Goraiko (Sunrise) Deck”. By the way, “Morgenrot Sunrise Tour” will be held on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between Aug. 3 (Sat) and Nov. 4 (Mon). (Booking is required: Adult 3,000 yen, Elementary school kid 2,600 yen). A sea of clouds and sunrise looks amazing from the deck.
