It was very fine this morning like yesterday morning. It was warmer and nice in the sunshine with the temperature at +7.5℃ as of 8:30 a.m.. There was a late-autumn like atmosphere along Alpen Quad, with the white trunks of the bare Dakekanba and the deep red leaves of the shrubbery, including maple and azalea trees.

As I climbed up, I got warmed up and sweated. “Can we see Mt. Fuji as well?”, people said, looking in the south, when they stopped to take their jackets off. Unfortunately I could only see Yatsugatake in the distance since a mist was hanging over due to the lots of moisture in the air.

I enjoyed the magnificent view of Mt. Goryu soaring against the light blue sky in the west. I found the northern slope just below the top was still covered with a thin layer of snow that we had on Oct.20 (Sat). The southern deck of Happo-ike pond was crowded with people taking photos of Hakuba Sanzan, which was reflected on the water surface.

There were not many people going along the ridge trail to Mt.Katamatsu. “We’re going to the top of Mt. Katamatsu today. I’ve been to Mt.Norikura, Mt.Kisokoma and Mt.Tengu before with my children. We’re thinking to climb the Northern Alps next.” a father coming from Saitama with his family said.

The autumn leaves along Gondola were at their best. I enjoyed going in the air, looking the red, yellow and orange leaves. By the way, it’s an “invitation week” until Oct.28 (Sun), the last opening day. Residents of Hakuba Village and the neighbour areas, including Otari Village, Omachi city, Matsukawa Village, Ikeda Town and Itoigawa city can ride Happo Alpen Line for free.
