It was chilly but clear in the morning. The temperature was +7℃ at the Grad Quad station and I was freezing, wating for the lift starting. It was all white with frost and slippery in the shade of the boardwalk like the last interview day.

As I started walking along Happo One Nature Trail, I got warmed up and felt nice with a cool breeze. The weather forecast said it would be cloudy with rain later on, however, the blue sky spread unexpectedly. It made me excited along with the beautiful Northern Alps and the sparkling plants with morning dew.

“I’m happy that the weather forecast was wrong and it’s clear today!”, visitors from Osaka I saw on my way said happily. The autumn leaf season has completely ended in Shimo-no-kaba and Ue-no-kaba. I found the white trunks of Dakekanba and the red fruits of Nanakamado left over there.

It was a nice day for trekking. I just went up and reached Ougi-no-Setsuden (snow field) around 10am.I found snow which didn’t melt even during the hot summer and the autumn leaf season.The first snow of the season was observed in Mt.Hakuba (2,932m above sea level) and Tateyama Murodo on Oct.2 (Tue), and Mt.Hiuchi (2,462m above sea level) on Oct.17 (Wed).I guess we will have snow in Ougi-no-Setsuden (Snow field) as well before the remaining snow disappears.

By the way, the autumn leaves along Happo Alpen Line looked the best between the middle area of the Gondola line and the Alpen Quad Station. Next time I will cover Kitaone Kogen, where the autumn leaf season is coming.
