The weather had been unstable for about a month but the clear blue sky spread today. The sunlight was strong but a gentle breeze was cool and nice. There were 30–40 people in a waiting line for the first Gondola. I heard someone saying “I’m looking forward to going up in this beautiful weather!”

Autumn leaves looked vivid under the sun on the boardwalk, which was crowded. Meanwhile, on the Ridge Trail, some parts were muddy but I enjoyed trekking overall.

Beautiful cloudless blue sky and Hakuba-sanzan were clearly reflected on the wavy Happo-ike Pond, which dazzled my eyes. I saw people not just taking souvenir photos but also enjoying the beautiful scenery with a cup of coffee in their hands.

As I went up, more leaves were turning yellow. The foliage of Tsutsuji (azalea) and Mizunara (Mongolian oak) trees were also turning red, yellow and orange. It was chilly in the tree shade when I passed through Shimo-no-kanba and Ue-no-kanba.

I could enjoy the view of Myoko Togakushi Renzan as well as Mt. Yatsugatake far away from Maruyama Cairn, which was crowded with trekkers. “I’ve made today’s plan of mountain climbing more than a month in advance during short breaks from my work. I’m really glad to have the nice weather! “, a visitor from Tokyo said happily.
