Typhoon No.21, “the strongest typhoon” in 25 years, made landfall and moved northward over Japan. The blue sky appeared around 10:30 a.m. yesterday and it was sunny this morning. Some parts were muddy between Happo-ike Sanso and Shimo-no-kanba, however, the way to Maruyama Cairn was completely dry.

There was strong wind blowing in the area above Happo-ike Pond, which nearly blew me off my feet sometimes. Kami-no-kanba looked greenery and there was only little sign of autumn. However, I felt the approach of the autumn because of the soft sunlight and the cool atmosphere.

I found the cluster of Nanakamado around Ougi-no-Setsuden (snow field) bearing red fruits. I felt so hot and sweated a lot while walking in Kami-no-kanba, but it was cool and nice overall. I did not drink even a whole 500 ml water bottle during this trekking (round-trip).

The snow on the route had disappeared and only a little amount of snow was left around Ougi-no-Setsuden. However, dry soil stuck to my shoes because of the rain that fell until the day before yesterday, before I reached Maruyama Cairn. I also found the ground rough with stones and saw people losing their footing.

I was surprised by the large number of visitors. The area around Happo-ike Pond and Maruyama Cairn was really crowded and it was hard to believe that it was quiet yesterday morning.
”We’re going to Mt. Hakuba from Mt. Karamatsu via Kaerazu-no-Ken”, a group of students said.
