When I got off Grat Quad it was above the clouds. Happo Alpen Line and Kurobishi Line was very crowded because it was last day of 3 day weekend. As I reached Shakujii Cairn, about 20 minutes from Happo-ike Sanso, I could see the sea of clouds in the east.

It was very cold for this period until morning of Oct. 7. But it was warm from yesterday to today and though weak wind was blowing, it was comfortable without jacket. The view the Northern Alps from the ridge trail was outstanding!

Along the way, sometimes the sunlight was shadowed by the clouds. There were many mountain climbers with large back packs early in the morning and the elderly tourists and the families increased as time passed.

The clouds started to cover the ridge of Hakuba Sanzan around 8:30 a.m. The wind was blowing so the surface of the pond was not mirror-like but many people were taking the photos from the deck. The autumn tints around Happo-ike Pond (2,060 m) was already finished.

But when climbed up a little and I looked down from the trail, the autumn tints were beautiful in the valley. Especially, the clouds and the coloured leaves were making the wonderful scenery. The leaves of Dakekanba (Erman’s birch) had fallen already and it’s white trunks stood out.
