Japan Meteorological Agency has announced, “It seems that the rainy season starts in Shikoku, Chugoku, Kinki, Tokai and Kanto Koshinetsu regions on June 7 (Wed).” After getting off Happo Alpen Line which was open at 8:00 a.m. as scheduled, we can climb up the dry trails comfortably.

Because the air was moist, the clouds came up fast and the sunlight was blocked off by the thin clouds soon. However, the temperature remained not so high, so it was good weather to trek. We could see small sea of clouds in the east when we looked back.

Miyamaazumagiku is in full bloom now mainly in the north face of Ridge Trail. The colorful alpine flowers of yellow Kijimushiro (Photo), white Miyamatanetsukebana and pink Yukiwarisou also welcomed us around our foot.

A week has past since Happo was open and only a few snow remained from Cairn No.2－Happo Cairn, so I thought we will be able to hike up to Cairn No.3 without walking on the snow in the next week. By the way, the toilet near Cairn No.2 will be open in the later-June.

No snow was left from No.3 Cairn to Shimo-no-kanba as well. I met a man who would climb up to Mt. Karamatsu and he said, “In the summer season, I get very shy because you take photos of me for much longer time than in the winter.” I guess the ice on Happo-ike Pond will melt out in about 10 days, although of course it depends on the weather.
