Because it was very cold in the morning and evening, the wooden paths were covered with frost in Happo Nature Trail. Especially, the path to Happo-ike pond was dyed white and very slippy. We had to wear heavy jackets when we took a rest.

It was blowing a cold breeze and the surface of Happo-ike Pond was rippling. The snow which had fallen on Oct. 12 (Wed) still remained on the peaks of Hakuba. The view from the deck was so beautiful that I heard people admiring.

After that, the clouds got to rise up, so I hurried to the trail to Mt. Karamatsu. The frost on trees and plants changed into snow as I climbed up and I found the trail in Ougi-no-setsuden covered with snow. Raichou (Grouse) also started to prepare for the winter, turning into white.

There was a 3-centimeter snowfall around Maruyama Cairn. When I looked back, the contrast of white snow and green Siberian pine trees with the sea of clouds jumped into my sight. The temperature got higher and higher but I thought we would need climbing irons in the coming season.

It was foggy when I climbed down to Shimo-no-kanba and Birch trees made fantastic views with thick fog. The visibility did not get better in Happo Nature Trail at last. Only 2 weeks leaves until the gondola will be closed on Oct. 30 (Sun), but Happo has triple-layered Autumn tints in a few days.
