Typhoon Malakas, the 16th typhoon in Japan, was downgraded to a depression on Sep. 20 (Tue) and brought a heavy rain to Hakuba. The rain was stopped, but the upper part from Usagidaira was covered with thick mist in this morning. It was drizzling lightly with a wind.

Because it has been forecast to be rainy in these days, much less people were in the trails than usual. There were some puddles, mud and slippy rocks, so I needed to walk carefully.

Shrubs, such as Ookometsutsuji and Takatoudai changed their color into autumn tints faster than the others. I was impressed by the bright red leaves of Hakusantaigeki (photo). Nanakamado and Ookamenoki also turned into red and yellow.

The fog got thicker and thicker as I climbed up. I could see fantastic white views at Happo-ike Pond. The temperature did not get higher because the sunlight was blocked off, so I felt cold sometimes.

I met 2 women who came down from Mt. Karamatsu. They said they started to climbed toward Mt. Goryu at 4:00 a.m. from Kurobishi Parking Area, but they stopped and returned because of this bad weather. The drizzle changed into light rain around 11:30 a.m. when I got back to Happo-ike Sanso.
