Today is a weekend of Obon Season, so Happo-one Nature Trail was very crowded even early in the morning. It was hazy in the trails from Happo-ike Sansou Hut to Kami-no-kanba, but I kept on toward the upper part, expecting the blue sky. The mountain trails to Mt. Karamatsu were also busy. In Kami-no-kanba, there were colonies of Miyamatouki, Miyamatorikabuto and Akabanashimotsukesou.

When I passed through the forest of birches and white birches, finally I could see the blue sky in Ougi-no-setsuden. The remaining snow was much less than usual, but many people were taking a rest, looking at the rare snow in this season. We had the strong sunlight, but the cool breeze made us the sign of Fall.

It took about 50 minutes from Happo-ike Sanso Hut to Happo-ikePond and about 40 minutes from Happo-ike Pond to Ougi-no-setsuden. Siberian Dwarf Pine zone spread out over the tree line and the sight opened widely. I climbed up to Maruyama Cairn, looking at the beautiful view of Northern Alps out of the corner of my eyes.

The trail before Maruyama Cairn is very slippy because of gravel and steep, so I got out of breath. However, the trails become gentle from the carin to Mt. Karamatsu Chojo Sanso Hut. After climbing up the steep stone stairs….

The panoramic view of the peaks of Hakuba and sea of clouds jumped into my sight!! Around 9:00 a.m. when I reached the cairn, many people had been already having breakfast and taking photos. A 20-minute-walk took me to the cairn from Ougi-no-setsuden. It totally took about 2 hours 20 minutes from Happo-ike Sanso Hut to Maruyama Cairn.
