Though the rainy season had been over on July 28 (Thu.), we have had overcast days recently still. The sunlight was blocked off in this morning and the temperature was not high, 20 degrees, so I could walk comfortably. When I got to Happo-ike pond, I saw a strange sight. There was a rock ptarmigan family! Every time they showed themselves from the grass, I heard a flood of cameras’ clicks. Rock ptarmigan is designated as a national natural treasure and it lives only in high mountains of Chubu Region in Japan. In Happo area, we can see the birds in Mt. Karamatsu often, but rarely around this pond, so the people looked to be surprised and glad.

During climbing down through Broadwalk, I found Takanematsumushisou, Shimotsukesou, Hakusanshajin and Waremokosou. It was raining until this morning, so the flowers were very cute with morning dew.

Umebachisou, an alpine flower in the late-summer to early-fall, was also blooming. Especially in the upper part of Broadwalk, it made beautiful white colonies.

After that, it started to rain. It made the trails slippy, so I had to walk carefully. Fortunately, the rain was very light and a folding umbrella was enough. The weather is very unstable in this season, so it is better to take rain gears.
