Tsugaike Kogen / ◎395cm / Partly Sunny2022.Mar.08

22030801_tsugaikeThe morning sky was clear and blue to the west, and thick with clouds and haze to the east. The early morning temperature dropped as low as -11℃ at the top of the resort, but had risen substantially by the time I stepped off the first gondola, and I found the weather conditions to be comfortable. The same can be said for the groomed run alongside the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair (pictured), where I enjoyed my first run on the moderately-firm powder-snow surface.

[Han-no-ki]

22030802_tsugaike Conditions were virtually the same in the area paralleling the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad, with a similarly-firm, powder-snow surface. It was a pretty laid-back start to the morning, perhaps due to the fact that it was a weekday in March, or maybe because the quasi-state of emergency was extended until 3/21 (holiday, Monday) for 18 prefectures. As a result, the 3 continuous kilometers of perfectly-groomed corduroy conditions held up for a long time.

[Han-no-ki]

22030803_tsugaikeI spoke with two skiers from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “This is our first time to ski at Tsugaike. We usually head over to Hakunori next door, but these wide-open slopes here at Tsugaike are pretty great, too!” I noticed a large group of young people, possibly students, hanging around the Tsugaike Central Triple lift (located just below this photo).

22030804_tsugaikeThere were reasonably-firm, wet-snow surfaces on the groomed Champion (pictured) and Shirakaba Slopes, as well as on the bottom portion of Han-no-ki. The sunlight bathing the slopes today also began to soften things up by around 9:00. There were very few people using the Champion Quad this morning, and I was able to enjoy having the expansive slope nearly to myself.
