The sleet that fell across the lower portion of the resort yesterday afternoon stopped, and today’s weather was calm and cloudy, with occasional sunshine. The groomed areas alongside the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair (pictured) and on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (4th photo) featured wet-snow surfaces mixed with the 5 to 6cm of new snow that fell during the later part of the day yesterday. I found the conditions to be great for fast, fun runs.

The bottom half of Han-no-ki and the Maruyama Slope (pictured) were groomed, with well-packed wet-snow surfaces. It was possible to get runs in on the untouched corduroy for quite some on the wide-open, empty Maruyama Slope. In other news, it wasn’t possible to get on or off the gondola today at the mid station, due to large-scale snow removal efforts.

I spoke with a couple of students from Osaka (pictured), who told me, “We’re on an overnight snowboarding trip. We’re not very good yet, but we’re having a great time!” The firmly-groomed wet-snow surface of the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) had begun to soften and loosen up.

The Tsugaike Ropeway Spring Service is set to begin on 3/12 (Sat.)! The ungroomed area on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) was topped off with between 5 and 6cm of fresh snow. There I met up with a university student from Osaka, who said, “I participated in the student skiing competition at Iwatake, and performed to my satisfaction. Today I’m out for a relaxing day of skiing by myself.”
