Tsugaike Kogen / ◎428cm / Cloudy / Light Snow2022.Feb.23
As of 2/19 (Sat.), Tsugaike’s officially-announced snow depth has steadily increased day after day, and today registered at an impressive 428cm. The weather this morning saw light snow with rays of sunlight occasionally breaking through the clouds. The Tsuga No. 2 Pair, which had been closed for two full days, opened an hour later than usual due to intensive snow removal work..

It was relaxed, easy skiing conditions on the widely-groomed Han-no-ki Slope (pictured), with a moderately-packed powder-snow surface. I heard several people commenting on the conditions, saying things like, “The groomers feel great today!” and “Let’s get a video of us skiing while the slope is still freshly-groomed!”

I also met 2 snowboarders from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “It looked like there would be good snow conditions today, so we got up early to make the trip out and board for the day. Luckily, it’s as good as we were expecting.” Conditions were particularly suited for carving, with a snow surface that was perfect for setting and holding an edge.

I encountered fog on the forest cat track as I headed down towards the bottom of the resort, but things cleared up around the Shirakaba Slope. Conditions on Shirakaba were similar to those of Han-no-ki, with a moderately-packed powder-snow surface that made for fantastic skiing. I had a brief chat with a snowboader from Chiba Prefecture who told me that he sat through the orientation to get his Tsugapow DBD area pass yesterday, and that he really enjoyed the fresh, fluffy powder.
