Tsugaike Kogen / ◎343cm / Partly Cloudy2022.Feb.08
With the significant snowfall occurring between 2/4 (Fri.) and 2/7 (Mon.), the ski resort’s officially-reported base has now surpassed 300cm. Yesterday’s official tally of 356cm was the highest amount registered anytime during the last 4 seasons. Today the major peaks of the Northern Alps were on fully display, along with a thin veil of clouds spreading across the sky.

The surface of the groomed Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) was in excellent packed-powder condition from top to bottom! Conditions were so good that it felt as if I had suddenly become a much better skier. From what I could tell, it seemed that most visitors headed straight for Han-no-ki off the gondola first thing this morning.

I heard several comments from skiers on Han-no-ki talkinb about how great the conditions were, and that it was a perfect day for carving. I later headed down to the Karamatsu and Oya-no-hara Slopes were the groomed wet-snow surfaces were just as easy to ski, and actually even felt more like powder snow.

I chatted with some students from Kyoto who told me, “We are using our spring break to come out here and snowboard. We’re staying overnight tonight at GranJam Tsugaike. The weather is great and we’re having a fantastic time! We’ll be sure to make a lot of good memories.” The east-facing groomed surface of the Champion Slope was also composed of firmly-packed wet snow with a powder snow feeling.
