There’s more to the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope than its length!  This morning, the vast, gently sloping, beginner-friendly area was in great groomed condition with a well-packed powder snow surface. In fact, conditoins were so good that I was having a hard time deciding which area to head to. I spoke with a family from Tokyo (pictured) who told me, “Our kids just keep sliding down the slopes non-stop, and it’s exhausting trying to keep up with them!”

All slope surfaces across the resort were in fantastic powder snow conditon, with the only difference being whether they were on the firm (Tsuga-no-mori, Han-no-ki, Maruyama) or soft side (Kane-no-naru-oka, Gotemba). The weather overall was calm and sunny, with thin clouds in the sky to the east and blue skies spreading out over the west.

It wasn’t only the main slopes that were meticulously maintained, but also the Kids Park (pictured, ¥500 admission for children, free for 1 adult chaperone). I met with a mother from Osaka who told me, “It’s my children’s first time to see snow. I heard that Tsugaike’s wide-open, gentle slopes were good for beginners, so we made the trip out here. I want my oldest to make their debut on skis, but they’re enjoying the Kids Park a bit too much.”

First thing this morning, I talked with a skier from Nagano’s Matsukawa Village (pictured) on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope, who told me he was a little worried about the weather, but that he was about to head up to Mt. Hakuba Norikura. The surface irregularities on the ungroomed areas of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope were soft because of the dry conditions.
