Tsugaike Kogen / △92cm / Sunny2021.Dec.09
Warmer than average daytime temperatures have continued since 12/6 (Mon.). However, the open slopes at the top of Tsugaike have seen more snow than rain, enabling it to maintain a base of over 90cm. Today, without a cloud in the sky, I was rewarded with perfect views of the snow capped Alps (pictured) to the west, and a small sea of clouds hovering in the eastern sky.

I chatted with a snowboarder from Toyama Prefecture (pictured), who was the first in line for the gondola this morning. He said he always uses our site, and told me, “This is the amazing weather I was hoping to get today!” Afterward I headed to the run paralleling the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair, where the groomed, packed-powder conditions were even better than I expected!

Conditions were similarly good on the groomed aspects of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured), with a firm, powder snow surface. I caught up with a resort staff member who had the day off (pictured, far right). He told me he was planning to head directly up to the Tsugaike Nature Park, but couldn’t pass up a quick run when he saw the slope conditions.

The ungroomed portions of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured, background) were covered in around 10cm of fresh snow, and the soft, flat underlying base made for some enjoyable powder runs. Around 9:30 the top of Han-no-ki was bathed in direct sunlight, causing some loosening of the snow surface, but conditions remained good.
