At the top of the ski resort around 8:30 this morning, a thick cover of fog was hanging over the slopes, repeatedly melting away and quickly reappearing. The groomed central portion of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) was in excellent, packed powder conditions. It was easy to get an edge and my skis felt very responsive.

Just as the Tsuga No. 2 Pair Lift began operating, I noticed a number of people heading off into the backcountry. Even with an increasing number of skiers and snowboarders on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope, there was still almost no wait time for the lift. As I was skiing, several times I saw people waving, saying, “It’s Snownavi!” A handful of people also told me they always check our site.

Both sides of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope were left ungroomed, and there was between 10 to 15cm of fresh snow. The tracks below the new snow were soft and shallow, making it suitable for beginners and even kids to enjoy some easy powder runs. After 9:00 the fog lifted for good.

The beginner’s area along the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift was well groomed and in good condition. There were more people there than the Tsuga-no-mori Slope, with lots of families and children. It was a nice Sunday morning atmosphere. JACKY’S Kitchen is currently open (10:00 〜 15:00, food served until 14:00) for those who want to take a break or have some lunch or snacks during their time on the slopes.
