It was strong winds and snow in the central parking lot this morning around 7:30, but things settled down by the time the gondola got moving at 8:00. I ran into a ski patrol member who mentioned, “There’s more new snow today than there was yesterday.” Sure enough, the ungroomed area on the steep slope alongside the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad had 50cm of fluffy fresh snow!

Conditions were excellent on the Han-no-ki Slope, where 5 to 10cm of fresh snow sat atop the moderately soft, groomed powder snow surface. I talked briefly with a snowboarder from Shizuoka, who said he loves our site and continued, “I have plans to meet up with a friend here today, but we still haven’t seen each other. The wind and snow died down, the conditions are excellent… how perfect!”

The wide-open groomed surface area of the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) also consisted of a nicely soft powder snow, with around 3cm of new stop on top. No bushes or exposed areas could be seen, and it was perfect conditions for first-timers and beginners to practice on. The father seen here (pictured, right) told me, “I check your site from time to time. We just arrived and will be staying and skiing until 12/30.”

Over on the Maruyama Slope, untouched powder snow could still be found after 9:00. I found the groomed, powder snow surface to be moderately soft, and the 5 to 10cm of fresh snow made from fun, comfortable turns. Since the year-end holiday period has begun, the central parking lot was full by around 10:00, and the No. 2 parking lot was beginning to fill up.
