Tsugaike Kogen / △85cm / Light Snow2021.Dec.01
Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort kicked off the season this morning at 8:00! Currently, two runs are open: the beginner run paralleling the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift (pictured), and the Tsuga-no-mori Slope. Rain falling at the base of the mountain was coming down as light snow at the top, and by 9:00 a bit of blue sky and some sunlight was piercing through the clouds.

This morning the groomed surface alongside the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair (pictured) was on the firm side. That’s likely a result of yesterday’s warm temperatures and rain loosening up the snow, before cooler temperatures overnight caused it to refreeze.

A group of season pass-holding snowboarders (pictured) called out to me saying that they were from Nagano, Omachi and Matsumoto, and that they took the day off to come out and snowboard. A number of other people also took the time to greet me. Eventually the sky clouded over once more and the snow began to fall again in earnest.

As of 10:00, the Tsuga No. 2 Pair Lift was temporarily inoperable due to strong winds. As a result, I wasn’t able to ski the slope during my time at Tsugaike this morning, but conditions seemed to be firm, similar to Han-no-ki. I’m hoping that the forecast calling for good amounts of snow tonight holds up, and that tomorrow I can go back to enjoy some fresh powder!
