Tsugaike Kogen / ◎261cm / Clouds & Light Rain2021.Mar.06
Today, just like yesterday, was another warm day. Early morning weather was dreary, with the mid to upper half of the resort completely wrapped in clouds and occasional light rain breaking through. The groomed, granular snow surfaces of the Tsuga-no-mori Slope and the area along the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair were already starting to loosen and dampen, and by the mid-point of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) the spring-like snow was even more noticeable.

On both the end of Han-no-ki and on the Maruyama Slope (pictured) the layer of loose, damp snow was even thicker, but thankfully still not enough to affect speed and overall snow conditions were good for skiing. With that said, visibility was poor, which is rare for areas that low on the mountain! As a result, most people seemed to be taking it slow and cautious.

Tonight from 8:00 p.m. Tsugaike will be holding its 50th Annual Snow Festival (“Yuki-no-Saiten”) at the base of the Kane-no-naru Slope (pictured). Unfortunately, due to the continuing coronavirus pandemic the torchlight ski procession and various stage events have been cut from the program, but the fireworks display will go on as usual.
[Kane-no-naru-oka]
Conditions on the groomed Kane-no-naru-oka (pictured, above) and Champion (pictured) slopes were similarly loose and wet. As for upcoming events, the 39th Annual JSBA All Japan Snowboard Championship is scheduled to take place from Mar. 9 (Tue.) to Mar. 12 (Fri.) here on the Champion Slope. (※The first day of action, Mar. 9, will be limited to practice runs for Snowboard cross.)
