While the extended period of heavy snowfall that began on 12/30 (Wed.) has finally subsided, it was snowing lightly at the Tsuga-no-mori area early this morning. The ungroomed areas of the slope (pictured) were blanketed in 15cm of fresh, fluffy snow. There were some uneven surface bumps and lines left over from the previous day hidden under the new snow, but not enough to be troublesome and overall conditions were great as evidenced by the spray of a snowboarder flying down the mountain.

“We always check your site, and this is the second time we’ve run into a Snownavi reporter. Today I’m here skiing with my three children,” said a father from Toyota City in Aichi Prefecture (pictured). Roughly 3cm of new, fine powder snow sat atop the groomed portion of the Tsuga-no-mori slope, making for excellent skiing conditions.

On the groomed Han-no-ki slope, the upper section paralleling the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair lift featured similar conditions to Tsuga-no-mori, while the snow was more tightly packed from the mid-portion down to the bottom. The Maruyama slope was also groomed, but softer underfoot than the bottom area of the Han-no-ki slope, making it even more ideal for fluid turns. That along with the pleasant weather had me wanting to run a few laps of the area.

The snow had stopped falling around the base area by around 9:30 a.m. The conditions on the well-maintained and gentle beginner courses of the Karamatsu (pictured) and Oya-no-hara slopes were great for cruising. The cautious and conspicuous beginners lent a pleasant and relaxing vibe to the area.
