“I’ve seen your website! I come to Sugadaira every week because it’s my home snow resort. The groomed trails are great.”, a snowboarder coming from Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, who was the first to arrive at Stage3, said. My ski edges gripped the groomed powder snow well on the north-facing Urataro Family East.

It started to get cloudy around 9 am. Wet snow was nicely groomed on Shirogane Schwartz (pictured), which commands a fine view of Sugadaira Kogen Pine Beak in front and Tateyama Mountain Range in the west. I enjoyed making big turns in the middle open area (pictured).

There were only a few skiers and snowboarders on Shirogane Schwartz, which is usually used for certificate exams, and I thought the slope is the best for morning skiing. The neighboring Taro Course is also empty. Snow was hard in the shade on the access way to Hinode Slope.

Wet snow was hard pack on Hinode Slope. I enjoyed gaining speed on the upper area with an inclination of 27°, although the slope itself is just 500-meter long. For your information, the slope is open for night skiing/snowboarding (18~21 pm) every Friday between Jan.14 (Fri.) and Feb.26 (Sat.), and every Saturday between Jan.14 (Fri.) and Mar.19 (Sat.).

＊ The sky lantern festival, “The 2nd KIBOU TERRACE”, will be hosted by a student association at Nagano University on Mar.19 (Sat.). They’re launching a crowdfunding campaign until Jan.31 (Mon.) for lanterns to release into the sky.
