We’re only 2 weeks away from Sugadaira’s final day of winter operation on 3/31 (Wed.), but even this late into the season more than 80% of the resort’s total terrain is still skiable – and free of exposed underbrush.With a pleasant southerly wind gracing the slopes early in the morning, conditions were good on the firmly groomed granular snow surfaces of the ‘Ura Davos Wave’ (Pictured) and ‘Ura Davos Heart-no-Mori’ courses.

Over on ‘Ura Taro Family East’ a 3-lane mogul course (pictured) is set up, extending from the top to the middle portion of the slope.Starting out this morning the granular snow here was hard packed, adding an even more technical element to the moguls.The moderately firm, groomed granular snow surface of the slope parallel to the mogul courses was in good form, and I was able to lay down some enjoyable turns there.

When I reached the Omote Davos Slope around 9:30 a.m., the groomed slope surface had already begun to loosen up.Conditions were similarly good in the Oku Davos No. 1 area at the top of the resort.Even with good weather and good snow, on this weekday in March the wide-open slopes of Sugadaira were nearly empty.

The snow park located alongside the Oku Davos No. 3 Pair is currently open for business.The park features a variety of items suitable for challenging beginner to intermediate riders, including boxes, rails, kickers, rollers and more.By the way, this Sunday (3/21) is ‘Kids Ski Free Day’ where 1-day lift tickets for elementary school age students and younger are free of charge!
