March, when the coldness is gradually letting up, is one of the best seasons for skiing in Shiga Kogen. As of 7:30 a.m, I didn’t feel so cold in Hisaka Parking Area because there were no winds, despite the temperature of -13 degrees. It was blowing a cold north wind on the summit of Mt. Yokote (Photo, 2,307m), but the panoramic view from there was so amazing.

I met a family from Shiga Prefecture at “2307 Manten View Terrace” which is the view terrace located on the highest area in Japan and they said, “The view is very beautiful today, but anyway, it is so chilly…” At the summit area of Mt. Yokote, we could see not only the frozen trees, but also the snow covered trees.

The staff of the patrol said, “There was a 5cm snowfall last night in Shibu-toge. The slopes were groomed well with that fresh snow, so they must be in good conditions today!” The groomed slopes in Shibu-toge were nicely firm with dry snow and covered with 1-5cm fresh snow this morning.

A season pass holder from Nagano City (Photo) gave me the greeting, “I always check your reports! This is my first time to meet you again in this decade. Last time, I met you in Ikenotaira Onsen Ski Area. I am so happy!” We could enjoy cruising in the beautiful clear sky and see Mt. Fuji from the slopes.
