Kurohime Kogen / ◎225cm / Snow Clouds2022.Feb.16
The snow that settled over the area starting from yesterday, seems to have brought more snow to the Hakuba area west of here, with Kurohime Kogen reporting only around 10cm of new snow at the most. I spoke with a ski patroller who told me, “It was sunny in the morning and it was possible to see Lake Nojiri, but by 9:30 the snow began to come down hard.”

I ran into a father from Nagano City (pictured) who told me that he had come out with the intention of spending the day at the One Coin Park, but hadn’t realized that the offer was only valid on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The groomed slopes of the KUROHIME FAMILY PARK themselves were composed of powder snow, and were soft enough that it didn’t hurt to fall. I asked the child if snowboarding was fun, and got a quick and emphatic “Yes!” along with a smile..

I enjoyed some fast, fun runs on the Karamatsu Course (pictured), where again the groomed powder surface was moderately soft, and topped with around 5cm of light snow. Around 10:00 the snow picked up in intensity, and fresh snow began to accumulate rapidly on the course..

It was similar conditions on the groomed Shinanoki (pictured), Lerch and Shirakaba courses, where the soft, packed-powder snow surfaces were covered in around 5cm of new snow. The soft, undulating surface on the ungroomed sides of the courses had around 5 to 10cm of fluffy, new snow. I also enjoyed a very, short, basic “tree run” (pictured) and the waves along the No. 1 Quad at the base of the Shinanoki Course.
