Kurohime Kogen / ◎230cm / Cloudy & Snowy2022.Feb.13

22021301_kurohimeI spoke with a mother (pictured, left) who told me, “It’s really encouraging to see a lot of other families just like us here, and makes for a great place to practice. I’m really hoping that my son will learn how to snowboard by the end of the season.” Another person I talked to said that they were fans of Kurohime Kogen because of the friendly resort staff and the fact that you can catch the lift for JPY500.

22021303_kurohimeThe moderately-firm wet-snow surfaces of the groomed Kurohime One Coin Park (1st photo) and KUROHIME FAMILY PARK (pictured) were free of bumps and good for easy, smooth skiing. I did however overhear a young child, who was tired of skiing and in the midst of a tantrum, saying, “Papa, I’m tired. Pick me up!” Overall though, this last day of the 3-day weekend was a great success, due in part to the pleasant, overcast weather.

22021302_kurohimeThe fog that settled across the entire mountain was mild enough to not impair visibility, and finally began to clear around 10:30. It was good skiing conditons on the Shinanoki Course (pictured) and Karamatsu Course, where once again the groomed, well-packed slope surfaces were composed of wet snow. Skiing on the Shirakaba Course was restricted due to high-level ski badge testing.

22021304_kurohimeA mother from Nagano City tried to get her children’s attention as I approached, but gave up, saying, “It seems like they’re too caught up in digging a tunnel (pictured). There are so many things for kids to play with here, so we find ourself coming back time and time again.” In the same area I spotted a number of other kids who were also completely focused on digging holes and playing in the snow.
