“Hakuba Paradise Slalom“, which was held for fifth time, is one of the pioneers of Banked Slalom in Hakuba. Ski category was added from this year. And there were about 265 entries in snowboard junior, senior & general, snowskate and ski categories!

The opening ceremony was held from 9:15 a.m. After the riding of five fore-runners including the producer Mr. Konno Noboru, junior competition was started. Because of lack of the snow, starting area was located at the top of Hilltop, which was lower than previous competition.

The course was firm corn snow when inspection started at 8 a.m., but as of 9:30 a.m. it melted nicely and the edges were working well. But the boards were not running well and some riders were going off the course.

The groomed slope of South was firm in the early morning. Sawa Course was melted nicely soft and I could ski comfortably. I was worried about the weather which may got worse but snow only fluttered in the morning.
