Happo-One / △290cm / Sunny2022.Apr.13

22041301_happoDue to the recent warm spring weather, the course leading all the way down to the base of the resort (Riesen + Shirakaba) was forced to close on 4/10 (Sun.). With that development, the 6 courses that remain open as of 4/11 (Mon.) are: Grat, Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Urakuro, Skyline, and Panorama. I spoke with a skier from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured) on the Panorama Course, who told me, “I love your site! Today is the last day of my 5-day trip. I’m quite satisfied with conditions I had.”

22041302_happoOnce again this morning there were soft, granular-snow conditions across the entire mountain. On the groomed Panorama Course (pictured), the soft top layer of snow was relatively thin first thing this morning, and I was able to set my edges and make smooth and controlled turns. Currently, the only way to access the open areas is via the gondola, but during the Golden Week holidays (with the exception of Monday, 5/2), the Kokusai No. 1 Pair is also scheduled to operate.

22041303_happoOver on the Skyline Course (pictured), there was a very noticeable difference in the colors of the snow surface, with the white groomed areas contrasting sharply against the “dirty” snow in the ungroomed portions. I could feel the snow softening more and more as I headed down the mountain, but it was never enough to catch my skis and throw me off balance. With few people out on the slopes, the groomed area alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad stayed in good condition along with the Skyline Course.

[Skyline Course]

22041304_happoThe eastern-facing groomed areas of Usagidaira (pictured), were soft and slushy from the start of the day and quickly became full of deep ruts and tracks. I caught up with a woman from Omachi (pictured), who told me, “I always read your reports! I usually ski at Happo or Goryu47 towards the tail end of the season. Even with only a base layer under my jacket, I’m pretty hot.”
