Beginning yesterday, the Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Panorama, Grat, Skyline and Urakuro slopes are once again open until 4/28 (Thurs.), and the connection from Riesen to Shirakaba, as well as the course all the way down to the gondola base station are set to remain open as long as snow conditions allow. I ran into a season pass holder from Shizuoka’s Hamamatsu City (pictured), who told me, “I love your site! I come out to ski often, sometimes for the day, sometimes staying overnight.”
[Skyline Course]
Yesterday’s rains came to an end, and the weather this morning was clear and calm. I was greeted by a Swiss skier living in Hakuba (pictured), who told me he was familiar with Snownavi and that he loved powder skiing. Incidentally, the granular snow making up the surface of the Usagidaira Slope (pictured), which receives plenty of sunlight, was loose and slushy from the beginning of the day. (The moguls that have formed on the ungroomed areas were relatively firm in the morning hours.)
[Usagidaira Slope]
With the Happo Riesen Quad ending operation on 4/3 (Sun.), the groomed Riesen Slope (pictured), which still has plenty of snow and currently no protruding bushes or underbrush, has to be lapped now by using the gondola. Conditions were similar to the groomed section of Usagidaira, with a spring slush surface. On 4/9 (Sat.) ~ 4/10 (Sun.), the Nakiyama No. 3 Triple will operate in order to provide access to the gondola base station. (※The Nakiyama Slope itself may or may not be skiable, depending on snow conditions.)
[Riesen Slalom Course]
Conditions held up well on the north-facing slope paralleling the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured), where the groomed granular-snow surface was moderately firm to start the day. I chatted with a skier from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) who mentioned that he always checks our resort reports, and was happy that conditions were so good. It was slushy, granular snow conditions on the groomed center section of the Skyline Course (1st photo).
