With the start of the gondola and Skyline No. 2 Pair delayed to a maintenance inspection, I made my way up to the top of the resort using the Kokusai No. 1 Pair, Kokusai No. 3 Pair (pictured) and Alpen Quad. The blue sky visible early on through thin clouds, soon after disappeared behind high clouds on this mild morning.

The groomed areas on the Panorama Course (1st photo), as well as alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured here & below) and on the southern aspect of Usagidaira, featured spring-like granular snow surfaces. I found the conditions great for easy, enjoyable skiing. On the Skyline Course, I found the groomed, granular snow surface loosened up more and more deeply as I descended.

In other news, today the 2022 TOYO TIRES FREERIDE HAKUBA freeride event was held. With unfavorable conditions in the backcountry areas, the three competition sessions were moved to Urakuro→Omusubi→Kokusai Slope. I spoke with one stafff memember who commented, “It looks like it might be a hard day.”

At Nakiyama’s “Mogumogu Hiroba”, the food truck of Hakuba Goryu’s TRACKS BAR is currently serving food (※10:00 〜 14:00, closed on Wed. & Thurs.). The tasty homemade burgers that come standard at ¥600 can be topped with cheese and/or bacon for an additional ¥100 each. (Pictured with both extra toppings.)
