Today’s report centers around the 30-minute session I had today with Hakuba Tokyu Hotel‘s Mr. Hagiwara. With the quasi-state of emergency in place for Nagano Prefecture coming to an end on 3/7 (Mon.), Hagiwara-san said that the number of reservations at the hotel has jumped since the start of March.
[Riesen Slalom Course]
Conditions were great on the top half of the Riesen Slalom Course (first photo), with a firm, packed-powder snow surface! The surface of the Usaba area at the bottom of the slope (pictured) was composed of wet snow but still easy to ski, and we thoroughly enjoyed our long, high-paced run from top to bottom.

As we talked about the day, Hagihara-san commented, “The weather and snow quality today are excellent! I suddenly feel like my skiing has improved.” I had to agree, and each of the groomed areas paralleling the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured), on the Skyline Course, along the southern portion of Usagidaira and on the Panorama Course were all in fantastic shape, with moderately-firm powder-snow surfaces.

Temperatures dropped quite low overnight, but as the resort opened for the day, the gentle sunshine and lack of wind made being outside comfortable. By the way, Hakuba Tokyu Hotel is currently taking reservations for not only March, but for April and through Golden Week as well.
