The first installment of spring skiing discounts went into effect today, 3/1 (Tue.), with the price of 1-day tickets for elementary school students reduced to ¥1,000 between now and the end of the season! (※ Spring discounts for adults are scheduled to kick off on Monday, 3/28.) Preparations for the ALL Japan Ski Technical Championships, which starts with qualifying runs the day after tomorrow, were underway today on the slope paralleling the Kurobish No. 2 Quad (pictured), the area alongside the Alpen Quad, and on both the south and north sides of the bottom portion of the Panorama Course .
[Kurobishi Slope]
The Panorama Course was widely groomed this morning (pictured), with a tightly-packed, wet-snow surface that had the quality of powder snow conditions. Early in the day I observed expert skiers, likely participants in the ALL Japan tournament, tracing beautiful lines across the snow with impressive technical turns. On the other hand, it seemed that a lot of the regular crowd was conspicuously absent.

Again today, the snow making up the surface of the north-facing slope to the sides of the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured), was of a fine-quality powder snow. Thanks to the great conditions, I was able to work in some nice carving turns! The groomed portion of Usagidaira, which sits at roughly the same elevation, had conditions similar to Panorama, with a wet-snow surface that allowed for smooth skiing.
[Kurobishi Slope]
Conditions on the top to middle portion of the groomed Skyline Course (pictured) were similar to Kurobishi, with a firm powder-snow surface. This changed to wet snow towards the end of the run, but it was still easy skiing. Lower down the mountain, on both the Sakka and Shirakaba slopes, the well-packed, groomed wet-snow surfaces had a noticeably higher moisture content. In other news, going forward, resort reports for Happo will be posted twice per week during the months of March and April.
