Today the mountain felt like a frozen world. Snowclouds have continued to dump heavy snows over the HAKUBA VALLEY, thanks to the the winter weather system stalled over the Hokuriku area! Fine, dry snow was falling across the resort this morning, and unlike yesterday, there was almost no wind to speak of. As a result, both the gondola and Alpen Quad (pictured, background) were abel to open on time today.

With the Alpen Quad, Kurobishi No. 2 Quad and Skyline No. Pair opening around 10:20 yesterday, and staying open for only about an hour and a half, there was more than 50cm of fluffy powder alongside the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair (pictured)! (*The amount falling last night was closer to 20 to 25cm). The excitement was universal, with shouts and spray rising up across the slopes.

There was plenty of untracked snow to be found this morning in the uncrowded Urakuro area (pictured), though there was a bit of surface crust due to the effect of yesterday’s windy weather. It wasn’t all bad though, as the conditions prevented me from sinking, and I had good time. Conditions were excellent on the groomers as well, with soft slope surfaces topped with between 2 and 10cm of new snow on Kurobishi, Skyline, the Kitaone Forest Cat Track and bottom of the Olympic Course II.

Visibility was less than ideal due to the falling snow and thin fog, though it didn’t really bother me. Amongst those conditions a skier (pictured) called out to me, asking if I was with Snownavi. They told me they always check our reports, and they were happy to finally meet a Snownavi reporter. In other news, tomorrow Omusubi will be closed to the general skiing public due to the Chanmero Free Ride Omusubi Open taking place there.
