A powerful winter weather system moved into the area yesterday afternoon, bringing with it another round of much anticipated heavy snow! Unfortunately, as I was afraid might be the case, the strong winds and poor weather at the top of the resort forced a delay to the start of the gondola. Of the 3 lifts that got started on time (the Nakiyama No. 3 Triple, Sakka Kitaone Quad, and Kokusai No. 1 Pair), I opted for the Kokusai No. 1 Pair, and made my way up as high as I could.
[Olympic Course II]
I was not disappointed, with 30 to 40cm of fresh snow waiting for me on the Olympic Course II (1st and 2nd photos)! I bottomed out on the relatively firm, undulating base from time to time, but still enjoyed the fluffy powder packed somewhat by the wind. It was groomed, well-packed powder conditions on the bottom portion of the Olympic Course II.

The Kokusai No. 1 Pair lift was very quiet this morning, perhaps because the majority of visitors headed to Riesen via Nakiyama. I took the opportunity to head up again, this time to the Olympic Course I (pictured). I was delighted to find plenty of fresh powder that remained for quite some time..
[Olympic Course I]
Again I’d estimated that there was around 30 to 40cm of new snow on the Olympic Course I (pictured). In comparison to the Olympic Course II, the underlying base was less uneven, and my runs here perfectly delivered that feeling of floating across the surface of fresh powder. During my time capturing photos for this report, dense snow was falling and a thin layer of fog had settled over the mountain, but neither had a significant effect on my ability to ski.
