Happo-One / ◎410cm / Snowy2022.Feb.20

22022001_happoTypically, low pressure systems moving south of the Japanese archipelago cause a brief spike in temperature. However, we’ve been fortunate enough over this winter season to not have any such instances produce rain. This time was no exception, with snow beginning to fall last night and continuing on into today. The resort this morning was almost completely free of wind, though fog was moving in and out across the slopes.
[Panorama Course]
22022002_happoThe groomed area paralleling the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured) as well as the Panorama Course (1st photo) had moderately-firm wet-snow surfaces that had the feeling of powder snow. There were spots along the top portion of the groomed Usagidaira route where the snow surface was hardpacked due to man-made snow, but overall it was similarly-firm wet-snow conditions. In both areas, around 2 to 3cm of unexpectedly fine, light snow made for some very enjoyable turns.
[Kurobishi Slope]
22022003_happoThere was between 25 and 30 of new snow on the ungroomed areas alongside the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair and on the Skyline Course (pictured). I found myself bottoming out from time to time on the well-packed uneven base, but enjoyed the feeling of skiing atop fluffy powder! It was easy skiing on the groomed section of the Skyline Course as well, where the firm wet-snow surface was topped off by 2 to 3cm of new snow.
[Skyline Course]
22022004_happoI chatted with 4 skiers (pictured) from Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture who told me they love our site and went on to say that they were happy that the fog had cleared. They added, “We did bottom out a bit, but enjoyed some nice powder runs.” A powerful winter weather system is set to settle over the area until 2/22 (Tue.), and may bring heavy snow and/or blizzard-like conditions during the next few days.
