It was a calm morning with soft sunlight being cast through thin clouds on this last day of the 3-day weekend. It was also another vibrant start to the day, though the early crowds didn’t quite reach the level of yesterday. Despite temperatures dropping quite low overnight, the lack of wind meant that it didn’t feel terribly cold out on the slopes.
[Riesen Slalom Course]
The firmly-groomed Riesen course was in good shape from top to bottom with a snow surface that felt like powder at the top, and wet snow stretching from the mid to lower portions. Those conditions made for some enjoyable, quick runs. The popularity of Riesen meant that by 8:30 there was already a 3 to 4 minute wait for the Riesen Quad Lift.

Around 9:00 clouds began to form in spots across the mountian, leading to occasional thin fog on the slopes. The groomed snow surface of Skyline (pictured) was well-packed wet snow that had the feeling of powder snow. Similar to yesterday the Kitaone Forest Cat Track, Sakka Slope, and upper half of Shirakaba featured moderately-packed wet snow surfaces, while the lower portion of Shirakaba was composed of firm, granular snow.

The wide-open, groomed area alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (pictured) was in fantastic packed-powder condition that made for very smooth skiing! The area paralleling the Alpen Quad had been groomed in preparation to host the 59th Annual ALL Japan Ski Technical Championships over the next three days, from 2/14 (Mon.) to 2/16 (Wed.).
