Light, dry snow was falling at the top half of the resort this morning, blown about by intermittent, strong, cold gusts of winds, while fog rolled in an out over the slopes. Most lifts were on time this morning, with the exception of the Grat Quad (snow removal) and Skyline No. 2 Pair (safety inspection). I occasionally spotted skiers cruising down Riesen through the thick fog.

There was a modest accumulation of 10 to 15cm of fresh snow, due in part to the effects of the strong wind. Because of the orientation of the Tenbo Course (pictured), a layer of wind crust made it hard at times to execute clean turns. On the other hand, the groomed areas alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad and on Usagidaira were both in fantastic condition, with well-packed powder-snow surfaces.

The new snow on the steep, ungroomed slope paralleling the Alpen Quad had also been significantly windblown in spots, making it hard at times to maintain control of my skis. It was also difficult to spot the boundary between the groomed and ungroomed areas, and I noticed one person take a big fall after inadvertently crossing over from one to the other. With that said however, the shallow bumps and undulations of the underlying base were soft, and overall the new snow was of a good, dry quality, so there was some enjoyment to be found after a successful powder run through the area.

Thick fog persisted over the Panorama Course, but the wide-open groomed slope with several centimeters of fresh, light snow made for excellent skiing conditions (pictured). The steep Olympic Course II, with a soft, uneven to bumpy surface and around 10cm of new snow also made for a fun challenge.
