Stepping off the gondola, I encountered occasional light winds whipping up fluttering flakes of snow. I was planning to head to Kurobishi and Skyline to assess the conditions and gather photos for my report, but the Alpen Quad, Kurobishi No. 2 Quad and Grat Quad were temporarily suspended due to strong winds blowing at the top of the resort. With that being the case, most visitors inevitably headed to Panorama (pictured) and Riesen.

The firm, groomed snow surface on the top half of the Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) was composed of powder snow, while the end portion was a mix of wet and man-made snow. Despite the differing snow types, conditions were good for skiing throughout, and I noticed a number of people doing non-stop laps from top to bottom via the Riesen Quad.

The base area this morning was incredibly calm and pleasant, with some sunshine to boot. There hasn’t been any substantial snowfall now for the last 10 days, but good snow conditions have been maintained all the way to the base of the mountain, due in part to the fact that no rain has fallen during the month of January. Once again, conditions were very good on the Nakiyama Slope (pictured), where the groomed slope surface consisted of well-packed wet snow.

Again today, the trees from the middle to the top of the resort were covered in a layer of frost. It was packed-powder conditions on the groomed Panorama Course (pictured), but as I headed down towards the Sakka Slope, conditions switched over to groomed, wet snow surfaces in the area just before the Olympic Course II (in front of Sun Terrace Panorama). Even still, it was good skiing all the way down to the bottom!
