Happo-One / ◎325cm / Snowy2022.Jan.29
Today marked the 8th-straight day where new snowfall failed to measure in double digits (cm), since 1/21 (Fri.). However, despited the limited amount of new snow, good slope conditions and snow quality have been maintained thanks to the continuously cold January temperatures and the absence of rain. This morning, the trees from the mid to upper portion of the resort were crusted over with a layer of frost as a gentle snow fell silenty.
[Panorama Course]
The groomed slope surfaces of Usagidaira, Panorama and the area alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad had excellent, moderately-firm powder snow conditions, thanks in part to the 8cm of new snowfall that fell overnight! Unfortunately though, fog rolling in and out of the area as well as the steadily falling snow made it difficult at times to see details on the snow surface.
[Kurobishi Slope]
The visibility obviously wasn’t an issue for everyone, as I saw several skiers on Usagidaira and Kurobishi making some impressive runs at full speed. The ungroomed areas had around 8cm of new snow covering over the shallow tracks and bumps of the underlying surface (The moguls on the Kitaone Course were especially hard). With the weekend crowd, I was greeted warmly many times with waves and words, including the popular refrain, “I love your site.”
[Kurobishi Slope]
Conditions on the Skyline Course were similar to the area paralleling the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad, with a pleasntly firm powder snow surface. As I turned my skis downhill and headed towards the base of the mountain, I noticed the slope surface firming up and transitioning to wet snow halfway through the Kitaone Forest Cat Track. It was the same story on the groomed slopes of Sakka and Shirakaba where the firm, wet snow surface was balanced nicely with a thin dusting of new snow, making for a great skiing conditions.
