This week followed the same pattern as last, with plenty of snow falling throughout the week, and sunny skies over the weekend. The Panorama (pictured) and Riesen Slalom Courses were in fantastic condition this morning, thanks to the large amount of fine, fresh powder snow that fell almost constantly up until yesterday, combined with the extreme cold temperatures brought on by overnight radiative cooling!

Conditions were just as great on the groomed areas of Usagidaira (pictured) and along the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad Lift (3rd photo). There was a thin layer of fog blanketed the upper portions of the resort early this morning, but it didn’t have too much of an effect on visibility. Yesterday the Grat Quad was closed for the entire day, but after reopening today it seemed to be particularly popular with skiers and boarders heading off into the backcountry.

The excellent conditions continued almost completely unchanged from Kurobishi to Skyline, and from the Kitaone Forest Cat Track to the Sakka Slope, with ideal, firm groomed surfaces that made for exceptional runs. On this sunny, weekend morning I was greeted by a fair amount of skiers wishing me good morning, and telling me they love our site.

As the morning progressed, the clouds and fog melted away, revealing a completely clear, blue sky. The recent snows have blanketed even the foot of the mountains with abundant snow, and I estimate that the walls of snow at the end of the road running to the Hakuba Highland Hotel (pictured) were over 150cm tall. The trees lining the riverbanks were covered in hoarfrost, and I noticed a number of photographers lined up trying to capture the light and magic of the scene.
