This morning’s calm, clear skies marked the end of two days of heavy snowfall. With lifts at the top of the resort closing yesterday at 10:30, followed by the gondola going offline at 11:00, the ungroomed areas on Kurobishi, Usagidaira, and Skyline (pictured) were looking good after a full reset.

Visitors getting off the chairs of the 8:30 Alpen Quad could be seen heading straight to ungroomed areas to take advantage of the fresh powder conditions, including the area alongside the Alpen Quad lift and the steep face paralleling the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair (pictured). The surface had a noticeable layer of wind crust, but overall had a satisfying, fluffy feel.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying the good snow and great weather, and in addition to the excited shouts of skiers dropping into fresh lines, I was greeted by a number of people today, who expressed their pleasure with comments such as, “Amazing!” and “What a day.” The slope alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad was also in fantastic shape, with well-groomed packed powder conditions.

The groomed portion of the Skyline Course (pictured) had a nice, moderately-soft, powder snow surface.Those conditions held up along the Kitaone Forest Cat Track heading towards the resort’s base, with the groomed snow surfaces of the Sakka and Shirakaba slopes being slightly firmer and perfect for carving turns. The Grat Quad was out of service for the entire day today due to snow removal work.
