Happo-One / ◎190cm / Cloudy2022.Jan.11

22011101_happoThe forecast for today seemed to miss the mark, as it was a mild morning with partly cloudy skies and even some sunlight. With almost no new snow falling since the afternoon two days ago, relatively large bumps could be seen on the snow surface along the Alpen Quad (pictured). On this weekday after the 3-day weekend, and with Omicron cases climbing rapidly, the resort was eerily quiet.

22011102_happoExcellent, packed powder snow conditions continued on both the top to mid sections of Riesen and the groomed portion of Usagidaira. A season ticket holder (pictured) graciously greeted me good morning, before quickly disappearing down Riesen.

[Riesen Slalom Course]

22011103_happoThere was a strong southerly wind, and aroud 8:15 (just after the 2nd photo), fog began to descend across Riesen and Panorama. Not much later, the same fog could be seen blanketing Usagidaira (pictured). However, by 8:40 the fog on Panorama began to dissipate, and I enjoyed a fast run on the firm, flat groomed slope.

22011104_happoAs I made my way down to the groomed, wet snow on the Sakka Slope, high clouds and flat light made for a dim atmosphere. It seemd like there were even less people than before, and I encountered only two other skiers during the 5 minutes I was there on the broad slopes. Eventually, a damp snow began to quietly fall.
