Last night’s snowfall delivered far more than expected! The gondola got moving on time at 8:00 this morning, but lifts from the Alpen Quad and up were delayed, meaning that customers looking to enjoy fresh lines in deep powder needed to take the Panorama Course to either of the ungroomed areas on the Central Course (pictured), or the Olympic Courses I and II.
[Central Course]
I had to carefully nagivate the upper part of the resort, where thick fog was affecting visibility, but things cleared up by the time I descended to around the middle of the Olympic Course I (pictured). Even this area not far from the resort’s base had 40 to 50cm of fresh, fluffy snow! A skier from Aichi Prefecture called out to me, saying, “I love your site! What an epic day!”
[Olympic Course I]
On both the Olympic Course I (pictured) and the Central Course, I was aware of the slight undulations of the base, but still fully enjoyed the feeling of floating on fresh powder. Of the two, I probably preferred my runs on the beautiful, extended snow surface of the lesser-known Olympic Course I. The underlying base on the Olympic Course II was mostly flat, and once more I found it covered in around 40 to 50cm of fresh.

The groomed surfaces of Panorama, Sakka and Shirakaba were moderately-firm and composed of packed powder snow. There was nearly 25cm of light, new snow topping things off on Panorama and roughly 10cm on Sakka and Shirakaba. Later, around 9:00, the Alpen Quad and Skyline No. 2 Pair began operating.
