A large cold front descended over the area last night, bringing with it snow that began falling in earnest around dawn this morning. Heavy snow and a layer of fog were reducing visibility around the Usagidaira Terrace at 8:00 this morning. There was around 3 to 5cm of light, new snow atop the moderately soft, groomed surface of the Panorama Course (pictured).

Temperatures at the top of the resort were a brisk -11℃, the coldest recorded so far this season, and the strong northwesterly winds made it feel even colder. There was around 25 to 30cm of new snow in the ungroomed area along the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair (pictured)! I did occasionally bottom out on the hard surface below, but overall I was able to enjoy the feeling of floating on fresh powder.

Between 25 to 30cm of new light, new snow could also be found on the northern, ungroomed side of the Skyline Course (pictured). The groomed areas of Skyline, Kurobishi and Usagidaira all had roughly 5 to 10cm of fresh snow covering a moderately soft base, while the nicely firm groomed surface of Riesen was topped off with around 5cm of new snow.

I met a group of 7 from the Kanto and Kansai areas (pictured), who exclaimed that they love our site. They told me, “There’s more new snow than we expected. It looks like the forecast is for continued snowfall, so we’re looking forward to tomorrow and Monday!” Around 9:00, there was an announcement over the resort’s loudspeakers saying that the Urakuro and Omusubi courses had opened.
