Beginning tomorrow evening, 12/17 (Fri.), a strong winter weather system will move over the area and is expected to bring heavy snowfall that will continue throughout to 12/18 (Sat.). This morning the sun was shining gently through thin clouds. The wind wasn’t noticeable around the Usagidaira Terrace or on the Panorama Course, but at the top of Usagidaira and on the Kurobishi Slope (pictured), there were occasional strong gusts of westerly winds that whipped up the snow.
[Kurobishi]
Conditions on the wide-open, groomed Panorama Course (pictured) and the area alongside the Kurobishi No. 2 Quad (1st photo) were good, with the wet snow compressed into a nice, firm snow surface. I was able to set my edges and make easy turns on repeat. At this time, I didn’t notice any areas on either course where the snow cover was thinning out.
[Panorama Course]
Owing to the fact that there hasn’t been a significant snowfall for the last 10 days, since 12/6 (Mon.), the ungroomed areas alongside the Alpen Quad (pictured) and the Kurobishi No. 3 Pair were full of hard-packed bumps and generally uneven surfaces. Compared to Panorama and Kurobishi, the groomed snow surface on Usagidaira was slightly more tightly packed, and snow cover was sufficient.

Around 9:00 the sun was hidden behind high clouds (pictured). A staff member of Cafe & Restaurant Pilar informed me that the cafe opened today, and that they are preparing to open the restaurant next week, on 12/20 (Mon.).
