Happo-one / △90cm / Light Snow2021.Nov.26
Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort kicked off the 2021-22 winter season today with the opening of the gondola at 11:00! The light rain at the base of the resort was falling as light snow at the top of the mountain where there was little to no wind. The first run to open was the Panorama Course (pictured, max 25° / average 16° / 800m in length), with the open Panorama Pair and Kokusai No. 3 Pairs operating in addition to the gondola.

Around 3cm of fresh snow covered the moderately-firm, slightly-wet, groomed snow surface. Despite the high moisture content of the snow, it wasn’t sticky and the conditions were good enough to enable me to gain good speed. However, later on as the surface began to get a little chopped up, there were times when I found it hard to bring my skis around while turning.

The ungroomed southern side of the slope towards the end of Panorama was covered in over 40cm of new snow. The fresh snow was pretty heavy, making it hard to turn, and people could be seen heading down in straight lines as a result (pictured). Later on, around 12 noon, the snow began to pick up in intensity.

Along the Alps Quad, snow surface conditions seemed to be ideal (pictured). I made acquaintances with someone who mentioned, “The forecast is calling for more snow again tonight, so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.” Currently, open restaurants are limited to Usagidaira Terrace’s Yeti (11:00 to 14:30) and Sun Terrace Panorama (also 11:00 to 14:30).
