Thanks to the heavy snow that fell yesterday morning in combination with the light snowfall overnight, the Kurobishi area (pictured) was covered in as much as 15 to 25cm of snow this morning. The weather was calm and sunny, and the strong sunshine began to melt the snow and ice accumulated on trees and man-made objects, breaking the silence at the top of the mountain.

It seems that the winds overnight were strong, eliminating all trace of yesterday’s footsteps and causing the snow to accumulate unevenly. The snow on the gently-sloping section at the top of the Usagidaira Slope (pictured) was between 20 to 25cm deep. The low-cut grassy surface was almost entirely hidden under the snow, and looking down at the barren brown landscape below from this world of white was almost surreal.

Additionally, the snow had similarly accumulated between 20 and 25cm (pictured) in shaded areas, on the Usagidaira Terrace itself and on surfaces that cool easily like lift platforms. Conversely, the snow that had fallen on sunlit areas where the ground is still retaining heat was a wet and heavy slush.

Looking at the mountain overall, the snow from yesterday and this morning stretched down to the middle portion of Riesen, the upper part of Central, the middle section between Panorama and Olympic Course II (pictured), and the middle of Kitaone. It’s now only 17 days until Happo’s scheduled opening date of 12/1 (Wed.).
